2022 was a big year for American Constructors. Not only did we celebrate 40 years in business, but we completed some of our most exciting projects to date. Keep reading to learn about our annual highlights. Thank you to our employees, clients and partners for making 2022 a year to remember – we can’t wait for what 2023 has in store!
January
We celebrated the completion of 1111 W. 6th, a commercial office space developed by our long-time partners, Schlosser Development. Read more about the project and how our teams worked together through the challenges of the pandemic in the Austin-American Statesman.
February
Throughout the month of February, our team attended career fairs across the nation in search of top new talent in engineering and construction. With visits to schools like the University of Texas, Kansas State University, Texas Tech University and Texas A&M University, we recruited 11 bright interns for our 2022 summer internship.
March
2022 marked our 40th year in business — and it was the perfect opportunity to refresh our company brand. In March, we launched our new logo and website, which remains true to the American Constructors spirit but updated for the modern era.
April
We presented a check for $70,000 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Austin Area for funds raised through the 2021 Clay Shoot. We spent the afternoon with the kids constructing towers from styrofoam balls and toothpicks, seeing which team could build the tallest structure. All proceeds from the Clay Shoot directly benefit BGCAA kids, providing leadership development and after-school programs that build great futures.
May
On May 21, we hosted our annual company picnic at Reunion Ranch in Georgetown, TX. The company picnic has been an American Constructors tradition for many years, bringing together our entire team and their families for a fun day of outdoor activities. Check out the highlights below!
June
American Constructors kicked off the summer by welcoming students from 8 different universities to our annual internship program, which has been in place for more than two decades. Over the summer, each intern was partnered with a company mentor to receive one-on-one guidance and gain hands-on construction experience by working on projects across Central Texas.
We were also honored to be awarded several new education projects the begin next year, including elementary schools in Belton ISD, Georgetown ISD and Leander ISD, Del Valle ISD high school #2, and Valor Education’s North Austin campus expansion.
July
Bastrop ISD and American Constructors celebrated the groundbreaking of two new elementary schools to serve Bastrop’s growing student population. Made possible through approval of Bastrop ISD’s May 2021 bond, these projects will mark the first two schools built by the district since 2009.
August
We opened two new schools in time for the start of the fall semester: Chaparral High School, Killeen ISD’s sixth high school, and Smith Elementary School located in Del Valle. We also broke ground on two new elementaries in Bastrop ISD that are on track to open in fall 2023. Take a virtual tour of the campus here.
September
American Constructors received four 2022 Excellence in Construction Awards from the Central Texas Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors. Two projects – 1111 West 6th Street and Killeen ISD’s Chaparral High School – received an Eagle Award, while two projects – Hellas Corporate Headquarters and Austin ISD’s Blazier Intermediate School – received the Merit award.
Our team also broke ground on Texell Credit Union’s new headquarters in Temple and a handful of Del Valle ISD’s projects.
October
On October 6, American Constructors celebrated the company’s 40th year in business with an event at Haute Spot. Together with colleagues, friends and partners, we reflected on our past and looked ahead to a bright future. We kicked off the night with light bites, sips, yard games and live music. CEO Marty Burger and COO Joe Charlton took to the stage to share memories about American Constructors’ founding, its challenges and successes across the past four decades, and the future of the company. Check out our company profile by Justin Sayers in the Austin Business Journal.
We also hosted our tenth annual Clay Shoot on October 21, raising a record $100,000 for the Boys & Girls Club of the Austin Area. Thank you to all the sponsors and participants who made this donation possible!
November
We celebrated the grand opening of Valor Education’s newest campus in Kyle. While the campus opened in August for the start of the 2022 school year, this event officially commemorated the completion of the new campus. American Constructors is proud to have built the campus alongside our architecture partners, Haddon + Cowan.
December
American Constructors wrapped up the year with our annual holiday giving campaign, a company tradition that brings together our friends and partners to give back to organizations making a difference in our community. This year’s holiday card was inspired by what a job site would look like decorated for the holidays and created by one of our employee’s children, Taya. We’re proud to donate $5,000 total to Girlstart, Helping Hand Home for Children, Lifeworks, Open Door Preschools and SAFE. Children, Lifeworks, Open Door Preschools and SAFE.
