About Creekside Middle School
As Bastrop Independent School District's student population continues to grow, the district turned to voter-approved Bond 2021 funding to transform the former Cedar Creek Intermediate School into Creekside Middle School, a comprehensive campus built to serve grades 6 through 8. American Constructors partnered with Bastrop ISD to deliver new athletics, fine arts and science facilities alongside major safety and infrastructure upgrades, all while the campus remained open to students and teachers.

CHALLENGE: Renovating a Live Campus Under One Roof
Creekside Middle School was a full reinvention of an existing school building, brought to life over three years while students and staff continued to learn and work on campus. The scope covered a complete renovation of the original building (new finishes, plumbing fixtures and science classrooms) plus two major additions: a gymnasium addition with a competition gym, weight room, locker rooms and training rooms, and a fine arts addition with band, drama, tech theater and new dance floors.
The most demanding piece of the project was a full roof overbuild on the existing, occupied building. For a stretch of the project, that meant the roof over active classrooms was effectively open to the elements with real exposure to rain and severe weather that could put the building and its contents at risk.
SOLUTION: Phased Coordination, Coordinated Around the School Year
Our team managed the three-year project in tightly sequenced phases, coordinating each transition directly with campus and district leadership so the school always knew what to expect next. During the roof overbuild, that meant installing temporary roof protection engineered and monitored to shield occupied classrooms below, so a rain event or severe storm wouldn't put the building or its contents at risk. The gymnasium and fine arts additions were sequenced alongside the full renovation of the existing building, allowing the campus to keep operating throughout construction rather than pausing for any single phase.
That sequencing only worked because of how closely the team stayed in contact with the school. At every key transition from one phase to the next, American Constructors sat down with campus and district leadership to walk through scope, sequencing and timeframes in detail – and stayed responsive to whatever questions or concerns came up in between.
By targeting completion of the new gym and fine arts facilities for the end of the fall semester, American Constructors was able to give students a tour of the finished spaces before winter break, so no one was walking into an unfamiliar building come January. This approach created an exciting, seamless transition for both students and teachers as they moved from one part of the building to the next.
“American Constructors was a great team to work with. Whenever we had key pivotal moments moving from one phase to the next, [they were] always sitting down, talking through exactly the work, timeframes, phase by phase… anytime there were questions, they were always very responsive.” - Heather Christie, Principal at Creekside Middle School
RESULT: A Comprehensive New Middle School for Bastrop ISD
The transformation of Cedar Creek Intermediate into Creekside Middle School gave Bastrop ISD a comprehensive grades 6-8 campus built to withstand future growth with new athletics and fine arts facilities, modern science labs and a safer, more secure entry, all delivered without disrupting campus’ daily activities. It's a project that reflects what American Constructors does best: building alongside our education partners to transform a facility into a campus their students and community can be proud of.
“We’re really proud of the transformation that's taken place here over the past few years with American Constructors. It’s been a pleasure and a privilege to have this partnership, so we’re so grateful and looking forward to what's to come.” - Heather Christie, Principal at Creekside Middle School
