School is back in session for Del Valle ISD and off to a great start with the grand opening of three new child development centers (CDCs). Funded by the 2019 Bond, the Central, North, and South CDCs were built to increase the district’s capacity to care for the children of students and staff from infancy through age 4.
American Constructors is proud to have brought these spaces to life, along with our design partner Pfluger Architects. Del Valle ISD can now provide low-cost childcare for 310 children that will help increase staff retention and support high school students with children of their own while earning their diplomas.
“It was an honor to collaborate with our friends at Del Valle ISD for these three projects which will have a tremendous positive impact on hundreds of students and families,” said Marty Burger, CEO of American Constructors. “Projects like these are a big reason our company exists — to build Central Texas in a way that serves our local community.”
The Central CDC location will partner with the Thinkery, a children’s museum based in Austin’s Mueller neighborhood. Focused on hands-on learning, the Thinkery will rotate various exhibits at the center, with the ultimate goal of opening a satellite museum within the Central CDC.
This district’s unique public-private partnership with the Thinkery recently was named a finalist in the 2023 Urban Land Institute Impact Award for the “Next Big Idea.” This prestigious award goes to a project that transforms our community and impacts our region’s quality of life in a positive way.
Congratulations to Del Valle ISD on this exciting milestone!
