Curious about what it takes to become a construction superintendent? American Constructors’ own Brett Harbin understands the sense of accomplishment that comes from overcoming obstacles and working as a team to bring a project to life. In the videos below, Brett provides insight on his career path and how he hopes to inspire others to pursue their passions in the construction industry.

Brett is an incredibly valued team member who brings innovation and dedication to every project. We are grateful to have him on the team!

American Constructors gives employees the opportunity to wear many hats from fieldwork and communicating with clients, to reviewing contracts and submittals. Brett’s advice to young professionals entering the field? “Be ready to work your tail off. What you put in, you’ll get back in return.”

Career Path

Brett gained an interest in construction at an early age because his father was a custom home builder, and he always enjoyed hands-on activities. This childhood passion led him to study architectural engineering at the University of Texas at Austin and intern with American Constructors. Since then, he has worked his way up to becoming a Superintendent.

Favorite Project

One of the first projects Brett worked on was 1111 West 6th Street, a mixed-use redevelopment in downtown Austin, Texas. This project faced a number of challenges stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic such as supply chain shortages, but Brett used this as a learning experience and opportunity to grow his career at American Constructors.
