Superintendent Marc Wilson recently earned his Project Management Professional Certification – a recognized credential that demonstrates a person’s possession of the experience, education, skill and competency required to lead and direct projects.

“The PMP certification built upon my mindset as a leader,” Marc, a former intern who’s been with the company for nearly four years, said. “It led me to discover many delivery methods to maximize project value for our clients all while welcoming change.”

To remain industry leaders in the construction industry, American Constructors encourages and supports the continued education of all employees. The company offers mentorship and tuition reimbursement to those interested in pursuing avenues that foster the growth and development of both the individual and the team.

Before coming to American Constructors, Marc served as an aviation Technician Petty Officer 3rd Class in the United States Navy and graduated from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor’s of Science in Civil Engineering.

His interest in PMP certification piqued after working on two highly technical builds: a high school science wing with an attached robotics lab and a series of cleanrooms at a biomedical manufacturing facility.

“I saw firsthand the importance of stakeholder engagement and the value of a true understanding of what the end user requires,” Marc explained. “I wanted to expand on my ability to collaborate with our customers, and I’m always thriving to discover methods on how to better lead a project.”

In January 2021, he began spending a few hours a week exploring new information and learning about concepts related to project management. As he learned more, Marc began to study for the exam up to two hours each night.

After encouragement from his wife and American Constructors leadership, he took, and passed, the exam, given by the Project Management Institute, in November 2021. Now, he looks forward to applying his new knowledge and expertise to exceed clients’ expectations and deliver excellence.

Marc added that earning his certification would not have been possible without the funding he received through American Constructors’ Tuition Reimbursement Program and the support he received from leadership and coworkers.

“American Constructors builds projects around motivated individuals,” Marc said. “The support of the continued education program welcomes us to pursue our goals.”
