This summer, American Constructors had the pleasure of hosting one of our largest internship classes to date. Twenty-seven interns from across the region joined us for hands-on experience at job sites stretching from Georgetown and Leander to Del Valle and Bastrop.
Throughout the program, interns were immersed in real-world construction environments, gaining valuable exposure to every stage of the building process from early planning and pre-construction to on-site execution and subcontractor coordination. The experience ended on a high note with an outing at Top Golf where we sat down with a few interns in between swings to hear about their most impactful takeaways.
Kade Norwood, a Texas State student who contributed to the Bastrop Intermediate School project, shared the most valuable piece of advice he received:
- “If you really want to learn something, master one skill really well instead of learning only little pieces about a lot of things. That skill becomes your specialty.”
Brooks Berry from Sam Houston State, who worked on the Leander High School project, appreciated the camaraderie and knowledge of his team:
- “Everyone was awesome. They had a lot of experience, so it was great to learn from them and see the project come together out in the field.”
Some interns explored specialized roles, like Logan Clifton from Texas Tech, who focused on financial planning and pre-construction:
- “As a finance major, I really enjoyed looking at unit price data and quantity takeoffs. I got to be both in the field and the office, and experience everything from small jobs to large renovations. It was a unique experience I’ll never forget.”
And the unanimous favorite equipment to operate? The boom lift and the sky lift – no contest.
We’re incredibly grateful to our 2025 interns for showing up with enthusiasm and curiosity every day. It was an exciting summer filled with fun and hard work, and we can’t wait to see where their careers take them next. Best of luck on your future endeavors!
