Congrats to Lake Travis ISD on officially breaking ground on Lake Travis Middle School #3! Students, dignitaries, local officials, and community members braved the cold and rain to celebrate this momentous occasion on February 13. Congratulatory remarks and well wishes were provided by Lake Travis school board president Kim Flasch, City of Bee Cave mayor Caroline Murphy—whose extraterritorial jurisdiction will cover the new school, and Jeremy Self, chairman of the district’s 2017 Bond Advisory Committee.  Other guests included City of Lakeway mayor Joe Bain, Village of Briarcliff mayor Al Hostetler, Lake Travis Chamber of Commerce chairman Matt Womack, Lake Travis Education Foundation president David DeStefano, and Candyce Speidel representing State Sen. Dawn Buckingham.

The 240,000-square-foot school will accommodate 1,200 students in two-story grade-level houses nestled into the hillside with hill country views. It will feature outdoor science and art areas, an outdoor gathering space, abundant natural light, and multipurpose breakout areas that allow for flexibility and collaboration. This project is part of the $253 million bond program approved by voters in November 2017.
