Last week, districts across the nation opened their doors for the first days of the 2021-22 school year. In Central Texas, thousands of students grabbed their backpacks and walked into a campus American Constructors helped make back to school ready.

While we hold a reputation as a premier construction manager for K-12 schools, American Constructors also happily completes regularly scheduled facility repairs, campus improvements and special projects over the summer to keep our clients' campuses looking first day ready all year long.

American Constructors CEO Marty Burger said working on summer repair and improvement projects plays a vital role in supporting our district partners, because research repeatedly points to the importance of a well-functioning, cared for learning environment for student success. School facilities impact student health, behavior, engagement, learning and achievement. Facilities also impact teacher recruitment, retention, commitment and effort.

“Education and innovation are cornerstones of the American Constructors' philosophy,” CEO Marty Burger said. “Our Central Texas students, teachers and school staff hold a special place in our heart. We pride ourselves on our commitment to help our communities thrive.”

This summer, our teams worked on over 30 regular facility repair and improvement projects across nine Central Texas districts. These projects included everything from major mechanical system replacements and repairs to simple painting and cleanup.

American Constructors also completed four major facility renovations and campus additions across three school districts for the start of the 2021-22 school year.

Here's a quick look at some of the work we've been up to since class was last in session...

Del Valle ISD

This summer, American Constructors completed multiple projects for Del Valle ISD in Del Valle, Texas. The largest of these consisted of replacing ground source heat pumps at three of the district's elementary schools. Ground source heat pumps consist of an underground piping system using the ground's temperature to heat/cool a building. These systems present financial advantages–offering 20-50% savings over conventional direct air exchange systems.

Temple ISD

American Constructors assisted Temple ISD in Temple, Texas, with both summer improvement projects and major building renovations. The district's summer projects included modifying the high school's special education department for better form and function. Our team also renovated a "maker space" at the district's award winning Career and Technical building.  In addition to these summer projects, American Constructors completed major renovations to the district's 1950's era Meridith-Dunbar Early Childhood Academy, which is the district's oldest active campus.

Leander ISD

Over the summer, American Constructors worked on an array of projects for Leander ISD across campuses in Leander and Cedar Park, Texas. Our teams repaired and replaced freezers across multiple campuses, refreshed paint, replaced asphalt and sidewalks, completed courtyard improvements and more. These regular maintenance jobs, play a key role in ensuring the longevity of the district's facilities going forward.

Lake Travis ISD

American Constructors finished a variety of projects for Lake Travis ISD in Austin, Texas. Our teams completed road and fencing repairs and replacements across the district as well as installed updated road zone signage. On top of these regular maintenance projects, American Constructors wrapped up phase one of a two phase major summer renovation project at Lake Travis High School. This project, which will complete phase two next summer, includes architectural finish upgrades and minor mechanical, electrical and plumbing work throughout the campus. It also included installation of a new elevator and asphalt replacement and restriping of three large parking.

"Let American Constructors be an extension of your districts' staff to help you with regular facility repairs, upgrades and special projects," Burger added, "so you can focus on educating tomorrow's leaders."
