The Lakeway Church Campus Expansion project was executed at the height of uncertainties and regional shutdowns relating to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite logistical and labor challenges, American Constructors managed to expand the Lakeway Church campus to serve the growing Lake Travis community.

The project included a new 800-seat worship center, a spacious lobby and gathering space, a music and media suite, a three-room nursery, and a central outdoor courtyard with an extended porch for church festivities and chapel.
To establish both physical and aesthetic continuity, American Constructors built a grand covered walkway to tie together the existing campus with the new additions.
Site improvements included additional surface parking and upgrades to the water quality facility, the utilities, and other infrastructure to support the campus expansion.
Glulam beams – The 10,000-square-foot sanctuary showcases an intricate cross-hatched ceiling comprised of massive glulam beams and trusses. While these 103-foot long beams, created a signature atmosphere, they also presented a challenge to install due to the material scale and the complexity of connecting the points. We managed to master the sequencing of installing the structural steel necessary to support the beams and trusses. Additionally, we determined which steel pieces to withhold installing, so we could maneuver an 80k crane into the sanctuary to erect the glulam configuration in one piece.
Acoustics – Given the expansiveness of the sanctuary, acoustic considerations were a priority to achieve the owner’s desire to amplify sound without any unpleasant feedback. To address potential reverberation issues, the back wall was composed of multiple wall sections positioned at different angles. These sections were covered with fabric-wrapped acoustical panels to further
reduce sound expression.
Utilities – An early concern in the construction process was the potential threat to the schedule posed by the necessary reconfiguration of existing on-site utilities. The effluent line–the treated wastewater line used for irrigation– cut directly through the plot where the pad for the sanctuary was to be built. We redirected the effluent line, as well as the sanitary sewer and the primary electrical, all the way around the site.
For the outstanding work on this project, American Constructors received the ABC Central Texas Excellence in Construction (EIC) Eagle Award. The EIC strives to honor those who exemplify the highest quality of workmanship in their projects, while upholding a dedication to building projects on time and on budget.
